UH Student Media Board

Empowering student voices through journalism, broadcasting, and digital media

What is SMB?

The Student Media Board (SMB) is a newly formed student governing body that oversees student media programs at UH Mānoa, including the student-run radio station KTUH (90.1 FM); the student newspaper Ka Leo O Hawaiʻi; the student-run literary magazine Hawaiʻi Review; and the student-run video production group UH Productions (UHP).

About SMB

SMB was created through the merger of the Broadcast Communication Authority (BCA) and the Board of Publications (BOP). The BCA served as the governing authority for student-run broadcast and electronic media at UH Mānoa, with its charter approved by the UH Board of Regents in 1982. The BOP governed the student-run newspaper and literary magazine, with its charter approved in 1967.
